Happy birthday to me! In time for Lunar New Year, HB 287 and SB 294 were filed in Florida on January 19, 2023. I’ve been working on this bill for almost 2 years now. It’s been a process.

289. Sacha Coward on Pride Month, LGBTQ+ history and mermaids

Sacha Coward is a LGBTQ+ historian, tour guide and escape room designer from London. I could’ve conversed with Sacha for hours about LGBTQ+ history, mermaids and vampires. In the US we are honoring Pride Month, and I am grateful to Sacha for teaching me about the history of Pride and how the LGBTQ+ culture has evolved over the years.

Stewart Kwoh is a nationally recognized leader and expert in race relations, Asian American studies, nonprofit organizations and philanthropies, civil rights, and legal services. He co-founded Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles and the Asian American Education Project.

As many of you know, I am currently writing a bill with Representative Anna V. Eskamani and Senator Linda Stewart to include AAPI history for the k-12 education curriculum in Florida.

I had the privilege of sitting down with students from diverse backgrounds across the state of Florida to discuss why they believe AAPI history should be included in their education.

I had a lovely conversation with award-winning South African actor and voice artist Langley Kirkwood. Langley plays the villain Buckley on HBOMAX’s Warrior. It’s been surreal to speak with so many cast members from Warrior and Banshee.

Langley shares his love for Cape Town, triathlons, and acting. As an admirer of his work, it was fascinating to hear about how his triathlon training compliments his acting process.

82. Jeff Prystajko on Come Out With Pride Orlando

Jeff Prystajko is a highly engaged member of both Orlando’s tech and LGBTQ nonprofit communities. As the current board president and former director of marketing for Come Out With Pride Orlando, one of the largest annual pride celebrations in Florida, Jeff leads a volunteer-based team to organize and execute the biggest single-day parade and festival in the city. He is passionate about giving back to the community as well as encouraging activism in others.

Meet Gabriela Roldan! I met Gabriela after attending her lectures on board my cruise to Antarctica and South America. Many of you have been asking me to share more about my travels to the great white continent, and when I decided to podcast about it, I knew I had to have Gabriela on the show. She has such an extensive knowledge of the history and culture of the area. We also discuss her hometown at the end of the world, Ushuaia, Argentina. I couldn’t resist the urge to ask the expert about the effects of climate change she has witnessed over the years in the region.
